Celebrating World Oceans Day at Jabulani
“The ocean covers the majority of the earth, but only a small portion of its waters have been explored. Despite humanity’s utter reliance on it, the ocean receives only a fragment of our attention and resources.” – @UNWorldOceansDay
Today, hundreds of #RelaisChateaux properties are changing the tides for #UNWorldOceansDay, in partnership with @Ethic_Ocean, by debunking a myth: just because a fish is ‘in season’ does not necessarily make it sustainable.
Jabulani celebrates sustainable seafood choices in this special menu for our guests below, with ingredients like seaweed foraged locally in Cape Town, including Ulva, Porphyra and Ecklonia Maxima, as well as mussels farmed largely around Saldanha Bay, and abalone (Haliotis) farmed along the coast of South Africa.
Thanks to our guests for joining us for a celebration of sustainable seas!
A World Oceans Day Bedtime Story
Once upon a time, the world’s oceans were in trouble. Pollution, overfishing, and climate change threatened the delicate balance of life within them. But people all around the world came together to help. They cleaned up beaches, reduced their use of single-use plastics, and supported sustainable fishing practices. Slowly but surely, the oceans began to heal. And on World Oceans Day, people celebrated the progress that had been made and pledged to continue protecting the oceans for generations to come.
One group of friends decided to join in on the festivities. They woke up early and drove to the beach, where they spent the day picking up litter and educating others about the importance of ocean conservation. They even managed to convince a few people to join them in their efforts.
As the sun began to set, the group of friends sat on the beach, watching the waves crash against the shore. They talked about all the good work that had been done to protect the oceans, but also acknowledged that there was still much more to be done.
One friend suggested that they start a community garden, where they could grow their own fruits and vegetables without using harmful pesticides. Another friend suggested that they organize a fundraiser to support local marine conservation efforts. And a third friend suggested that they start a social media campaign to raise awareness about the importance of ocean conservation.
The friends left the beach feeling inspired and motivated to continue their efforts to protect the oceans. They knew that it wouldn’t be easy, but they were committed to doing their part to ensure that the oceans would be healthy and thriving for generations to come.
