Yesterday, as we were on our way to watch the Camp Jabulani elephant herd at the waterhole, we came across a herd of African Buffalo in the water.
Buffalo love to keep cool during hot days and can often be spotted wallowing just off the banks of the Kapama Game Reserve watering holes. This ritual is also a great way for the buffalo to keep clean, as terrapins (fresh water turtles found in all of our waterholes) love to pick the ticks off the buffalo. Lolling in mud can also help to get rid of ticks and other ectoparasites.
This photo was captured just as the last of the buffalo was running out of the water- a great example of Camp Jabulani wildlife!
