December was an extraordinary month for Camp Jabulani, with some incredible cat sightings, special seasonal celebrations, and the opening of our brand new outdoor dining facility. Here are a selection of our most treasured moments:
Early summer rains have transformed the African bush into a lush paradise.
The abundant grazing is perfectly timed to coincide with the birthing season for the plains game. Cuteness overload!
The birds are also busy breeding. This lovely shot shows a male Southern Masked Weaver perfecting his nest, ready for inspection by the female. If she doesn’t approve, then he will have to start all over again.
One evening we had some rather unusual assistance with the sundowner set-up.
Christmas day celebrations at Camp Jabulani started with a special ride to a champagne bush breakfast at Kubu dam. As you can see, the Jabulani elephants were invited to join us for the party as well.
Later the same afternoon the guests were able to enjoy a sumptuous lunch back at the lodge.
Christmas 2014 at Camp Jabulani will probably be best remembered for the remarkable leopard sightings. Just after lunch the staff and guests witnessed a magnificent male leopard on the far side of the camp dam. This leopard walked straight past the elephant mounting ramp to his warthog kill by the river bed.
Heavy rains just after Christmas day meant that one of the servals that we have released had the chance to practise his fishing skills. Here is a beautiful picture of young Schalk looking suitably proud of himself.
2014 could not have finished any more perfectly for Camp Jabulani. We celebrated in the New Year with the opening of our gorgeous new outdoor dining facility. Situated on the edge of the lodge dam with the moon and stars reflecting in the water, this special space will add an extra dimension to the guests’ dining experience for years to come.
Best wishes for a wonderful 2015 from all at Camp Jabulani!
