Mhambi the Woolly Elephant Traveller is on a Worldwide Journey
by jabulani
Mhambi is a woolly custodian for elephants everywhere
Handmade in South Africa, Mhambi’s home is Jabulani Safari, where she lives alongside the wild animals of a private and protected wilderness as well as her elephant family, the rescued Jabulani herd. While her herd roam, forage, swim and bond in the reserve each day, Mhambi is a traveller at heart. Even her name, the Zulu word for “traveller”, hints to her exploratory nature. She is on a journey to spread the message of her herd, orphans who have been given a second chance at a family of their own, and the vital work of elephant conservation at an elephant orphanage in South Africa, known as HERD (Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development).
We do hope you will come and meet the herd and learn more about them and their species here on Safari at Jabulani but for those who cannot travel, Mhambi (meaning “Traveller” in Zulu) will be connecting new lands. She is still picking up a few lessons from Adine at the lodge — including how to count the hours Khanyisa sleeps in a day, and enjoying a few adventures on her first ever soulful safari with us!
Adine introduces the new member of the herd:
We have a special supporter we hope will help Mhambi get to the United States next, as Mhambi has received her COVID vaccinations and her new passport is ready for stamping!
